KU invited publishers to submit front list and backlist titles as well as journals which were then subjected to a selection process by the Title Selection Committee, a group of 175 librarians from 18 countries around the world. The shortlist is made up of the most suitable books and journals for the programme – which are defined as those with the widest global appeal and relevance.

Around 1280 titles were submitted to KU Select 2018 from 70+ publishers. Libraries have given us the feedback that they cannot budget for a larger collection than the current size at the moment. Therefore, as the collection size is to remain at around 350 books (343 titles in KU Select 2017), a high rejection rate was needed. Members of the Title Selection Committee were nominated by KU participating libraries. The current rejection rate for titles is about 70%.
